IKEA

“Nabil, kau ada nak pergi mana-mana tak petang ni?” my mum asked as she entered house.
“No. Not till 6. Why?” I replied.
“I bought a sofa from IKEA yesterday. It will arrive this evening.” She answered with a smile in her face.
“Huh!? You buy a sofa?! For what? Rumah kita ni dah la kecik, kat mana nak letak sofa tu nanti?” I reacted.
“Sini muat kot. What do you think?” Immediately she gave me the answer, and another question.
“Tak taulah ma. I haven’t seen the thing yet. Do we really need the sofa? Aren’t those in front are enough?” I complained.
“Ala sofa bed. Korang suka sangat tido kat sofa depan tu. Mama beli la sofa bed terus,”

The sofa arrived a few minutes later. And as I said to my mum before, our house is not big enough to afford a new stuff unless we sold a few other stuff. So we had a problem to put the sofa. Furthermore, it is L-shaped. Which make it harder to find a place that suitable to put it.

“Berapa ribu ni ma?” I asked as we placed the sofa at a corner near the kitchen. Just for a temporary time.
“Ni? 600 je.”
“Hah?!?!”
“Murahkan?”
Yeah, it’s cheap. Looking at the size, type and quality, it was far more cheaper than other sofa in its class. I was expecting the price should be around 1 to 2k. But how does the price get so~ cheap? I won’t tell you hear. Because that’s not my point in this entry.

Save Or Waste

Let me bring you inside my brain. Here is the case. If we went out for a shopping, we usually have a rough list in our mind on what to buy (unless you were intending for a window shopping). And usually too, we will not follow the list. It usually end out we buy something else. Right? Yeah I’m saying about USUAL case. Not sometime-case. Sometimes we do really follow our list. It’s true. Great. Kudos to us for that sometimes.

Ok, when we went for shopping, usually we will strike upon some promotions. An irresistible promotion. Say for example, you wanted to buy some shirts. But at that shop, there are having promotion where if you buy more than RM100 you will receive some free gift like belt for example. And if you buy more than RM150, you will get a free-lovely-girlish-looked hand bag that looks so nice to give as a gift to your girlfriend or else you are a girl.

I will say there’s a very high possibility that you will go for RM150. You must agree with me right? But, look. Say a shirt or blouse may only cost about RM40. So you will buy 4 of them. Yeah you get a free hand bag which they said cost around RM100++ and 4 shirts/blouses. Will you say you just saved for RM100++ or you just wasted RM80 because your intention earlier was like just two or three is the most amount of shirts/blouse you will buy. Got my message?

Another case. You wanted to buy something. So, when you go to the mall, you saw a… (erm what should I say here for example) say, you saw a shop selling shirts (again) 4 for only RM20. And the shirts look really cool that you felt in love to it. So you went and buy 4 of them. Back home, you felt so happy and lucky because you get 4 new cool shirts for only RM20. Did you just save some money or you wasted it?

A Tip

When I say ‘a’ it means only one. If you want more I’ll post it another time. Ok back to point. Here is the question; do we need to buy a stuff just because it is cheap? I’ve read a book entitled “Jutawan dari Planet Jupiter” by Azizi Ali. A book about how to manage our financial in a better way. One of the tips to save our money is to list down the items we need before we went to go for shopping. The keywords are list and need.

You list down what you wanted to buy. Make the list in a piece of paper not just inside your mind. I know you have a brilliant brain and a strong memory, but just don’t waste the paper. Let us use the paper wisely. And the most important thing is only list down the NEEDED items. Not you-think-you-need type of item.

Now, let us see how much thing you can avoid to waste if you FOLLOW the listing tip. First, you can avoid from wasting papers. Second, if you really follow the list and you didn’t buy unlisted items, then you get to avoid from wasting money. Third and maybe last, in case you didn’t use the paper to list down what you’re about to buy. There will be some possibility that you will forget what you wanted to buy. So you will need time to recall it, and that will make you waste your time.

In other word, by listing it on a piece of paper, you can avoid from wasting money, time and paper. So, start saving now.
