It is easy for us to understand or to remember something we have learned when we acquired several technics proven with their effectiveness to anybody who’ve already exercised them. My idea to write this articles popped out when I read a book in Malay called “Pandai berfikir” writen by Ainon Muhammad and Abdullah Hassan. I’ve quoted some technics and tips writen in this lovely book in my own language as a guidence to my readers.
Some people may have high concentration compared to others. this concentration is truly useful when we have time limit and we need to memorize the content of some reading sources. Other people may have low quality of concentration. hence, it is easy for them to adrift in their mind while they are still reading !
So to cope with this situation, author of this book already fork out some fundamental aspects needed to increase our reading skills.
Occasionally, we heard some people babbling with their fate. They told us that they already read throughly but then they seem to forget the content of the reading. When we learn, a lot of time used in reading activities to store the information in our brain.
There are two reading activities which are active reading and passive reading. An effective reading activity for smart learning is active reading. when we read using this reading activity, we will read read in a prepared way a.k.a selective way.
In contrast, when we read passively, input gained will dissolve from our mind. It will not stored in our memory. Many students misunderstand about this matter. They think that their reading style are correct when they highlight their books with green and red highlighters. Actually this is a good technic for us but, we have to distiguish first which one is important information and which one a “sidekick” information. Highlight only crucial informations. If not, our books will be in the same category as colouring books for kids
A book writen by Professor E P.Robinson; Effective study introduced a proved-reading technic called SQ3R method. This method contains 5 steps:
1. Survey
2. Question
3. Read(baca)
4. Recite(recite)
5. Review
First Step: Survey
Do not read the first sentence until the last line. Read first the title of the topic. Then read sub-topics available. This is what we called survey. If the topic have the synopsis, read that synopsis throughly. The reason why we need to perform the survey is to gain some rough ideas about the topic. In this case, we need to be patient a little bit. This is to ensure that our next step run smoothly.
At this moment, I will explain only the first step. Actually it is easy for us to pull out our concentration potential, so I hope readers will stay tune with us until the next step writen. Senyum sokmo always, see ya!
